Wick-edly Sent’s Face Wash and Toner

If you read our article “5 Tips for Healthy Summer Skin and Face,” you know how important it is to use a gentle and natural face wash and toner, not only for the summer, but for all year ’round.  Regular cleansing, both morning and night, removes dirt that clogs pores and it also lessens environmental impact on the skin. At Wick-edly Sent, we have created a wonderful product that combines these two essential steps – washing and toning – in one all natural product. We use the Botanical Complex HC™, composed of Rosemary, Lavender, Rose, Nettle, and Lemon Grass, to create a face wash and toner that will leave your skin feeling clean and refreshed.  The Botanical Complex HC™ was created specifically to be used for skin and hair care products and offers gentle but effective cleansing.  As a base for our face wash and toner, we use olive oil that not only gets the skin clean, but acts as a toner as well, to reduce oils and inflamation, helping to promote a smoother, healthier skin. Our all natural Face Wash and Toner comes in a 4 oz. bottle and sells for $6.50.  It can be purchased in our store in Canandaigua, NY or ordered through our online...

Wick-edly Sent Demonstrates Olive Oil Soap Making

At Wick-edly Sent, we pride ourselves in the high quality, all natural olive oil soap that we make onsite at our store in Canandaigua, N.Y. To make our olive oil soap, we combine three different types of oil – palm, coconut and olive oil – to create a product that lathers well, has a solid consistency to last long and provides moisture for the skin.  The olive oil leaves your skin feeling smooth and silky, but with no greasy residue. After we combine the oils, we bake the mixture which comes out looking a lot like mashed potatoes.  At this point we add a combination of fragrances and/or essential oils to our olive oil soap before we pour it in the mold to harden overnight. But rather than tell you our whole process, why don’t we demonstrate how we make our fine olive oil soap?  So come along with us now as we share our secrets of making a luxurious, high quality olive oil soap available only from Wick-edly Sent in more than a dozen different fragrances. The History of Olive Oil Soap

History is uncertain as to who were the first to invent soap, but there are accounts of it being made by the Babylonians around 2800 B.C. and later, by the Phoenicians around 600 B.C. Soap must have been popular in Rome because the remains of a soapmaking facility were found in the ruins of Pompeii, complete with finished bars of soap!  Although the Romans were known for their baths, they did not use soap for bathing.  Instead, they used a combination of olive oil and sand which they scraped off with a “stragil,” or scraper.  This combination was great for exfoliation and moisturizing.  The Romans began using soap for cleansing sometime later, probably around the 2nd Century A.D. when a physician named Galen began recommending it for some skin conditions. The Celtic people also claimed to have invented soap making and it’s very possible that numerous groups discovered how to make it around the same time. Soap making virtually disappeared after the fall of the Roman Empire and was revived again in the 8th Century in Italy and Spain.  During the 13th Century, France also became a producer of soaps for the European market and in the 14th Century, England also jumped into production. The countries in the south of Europe began using olive oil in soap production, since it was plentiful.  In the northern countries, they used animal fat or fish oil, so their soap was considered less luxurious and of lower grade.  Today, Wick-edly Sent continues the tradition of creating the highest quality olive oil soap, similar to that created by early southern Europeans.  The wonderful thing about olive oil soap is that, not only does it moisturize your skin and smell wonderful, but researchers have discovered that it can also have...

Wedding Favors, Customized by Wick-edly Sent

The custom of giving wedding favors started hundreds of years ago in Europe when the nobility gave out gifts at their weddings.  These wedding favors were typically small porcelain, metal or crystal boxes filled with candies, or treats made of sugar, called bonbonierres. Because a wedding was considered to be good luck, this was a way for the noble couple to share their luck with their guests and to show their appreciation for their guests’ attendance.  Remember, in those days, guests may have traveled many days to attend the wedding. Today, the custom of giving favors occurs not only at weddings, but also at showers and bachelorette parties.  Just as the custom has expanded, the array of favors has grown as well.   Now, the favors are often personalized to commemorate the event.  The one thing that hasn’t changed is that guests are always delighted to leave with a favor that is both a token of appreciation and that also marks the special occasion. So if you just volunteered to host your niece’s bridal shower, or your friend’s bachelorette party,  or if you’re a bride looking for a special wedding favor to commemorate your occasion, Wick-edly Sent can create a favor to fit your tastes and budget. We are happy to work with you to create just the right favor.  For example, in the shower favor above, guests at Kate’s bridal shower received lavendar olive oil soap, body wash, body lotion and lip butter customized with “Thanks for Showering with Kate.” You might consider mixing one of our lovely tea size scented soy candles in with several of the items above.  The choice is yours! Our customized wedding favors usually range in price from $3 to $7, depending on your budget and what you’d like to give your guests. All of our products are all natural and...
